About You’re the OS!

You're the OS! is a game by Pier-Luc Brault in which you are the operating system of a computer. Processes appear and want CPU time, programs wait for I/O, and memory pages have to move between RAM and disk, and you have to manage all of it by hand.

Every process shows how patient it still is, from a happy face to an angry one. Leave processes idling for too long and the user gets impatient and kills them, and after too many ragequits the user reboots you. It is a fast, funny and surprisingly tense management game that also shows how a real operating system works.

How to play

  1. Click the game to start a new session.
  2. Click an idle process to give it a free CPU; click it again to take it off.
  3. Handle I/O events and move memory pages between RAM and disk when needed.
  4. Keep every process happy for as long as possible and push your score up.
