SuperTux is a classic side-scrolling jump-and-run game, free and open source and made by its community since 2003. Tux and Penny are having a picnic on the ice fields of Antarctica when the villain Nolok kidnaps Penny, and Tux sets off across the land to rescue her from Nolok's fortress.

This web version has the two story worlds, Icy Island and Rooted Forest, with almost sixty levels on their world maps. You stomp on enemies, bump blocks from below, throw objects, and collect power-ups such as the fire flower and ice flower, with boss fights and secret areas along the way. The game opens on its own page and plays with a keyboard or with the on-screen gamepad on phones and tablets.

How to play

Press Play: the game opens in a new tab. The first start downloads about 140 MB.

Choose Start Game and then Story Mode.

Walk on the world map to the next level and enter it.

Run and jump to the end of each level, collecting coins and power-ups.

Beat the bosses and rescue Penny from Nolok's fortress.

Controls

Arrow keys: move, Up: enter doors, Down: duck

Space: jump

Ctrl: action (run, pick up and throw, fire)

Escape: pause menu

Touch screen: joystick on the left, A = jump, B = action, ☰ = pause

Tips

Hold the action button while you walk to run and jump further.

Jumping on most enemies defeats them, but some have spikes: hit those with fire or ice instead.

Look for hidden blocks and secret paths; the world map shows which levels are done.
