Flare is a free, open-source action RPG in the tradition of the classic isometric dungeon crawlers. This is its main game, the Empyrean Campaign: Empyrean, a city floating in the sky, is the last bastion of humankind, and you start as a lone adventurer on the ground below, fighting your way through forests, caves, ruins and dungeons.

Click to walk and attack, defeat skeletons, goblins, antlions and much stronger creatures, and collect the gold, weapons and armour they drop. Choose a Brute, Scout or Adept, spend points on new powers as you level up, and follow the quests that lead through more than fifty areas. The game saves your hero in this browser. The first start downloads about 280 MB of game data; later visits start much faster.

How to play

Press Play Game, pick a portrait, a name and a class (Brute, Scout or Adept) and press Create.

Click on the ground to walk and on a monster to attack it.

Pick up loot, equip better gear in the inventory (I) and learn new powers (P) when you level up.

Follow the quests in the log (L) and explore the world below the city in the sky.

Controls

Left click: walk, attack, pick up items, talk

Right click: use the power assigned to the right mouse button

1-6, Q, E, R, F: powers on the action bar

C: character, I: inventory, P: powers, L: quest log

Esc: menu (save and quit, settings)

Touch screen: tap to walk, tap an enemy and press A to attack (hold A to keep attacking), hold the screen = right click

Tips

Drink health potions (1) before your health runs out, not after.

Drag powers from the powers menu onto the action bar to use them with a key.

Brutes fight up close, Scouts shoot from a distance and Adepts cast spells.

Your progress is saved in this browser; Configuration lets you change the language and controls.

Devices

Plays on computers; works on phones and tablets with some limits.
