About Chess
Play chess against Stockfish, one of the strongest chess engines in the world, right in your browser. This is the free, open-source BoldChess Web App with Stockfish 19 running on your own device, so there is no account, no waiting for an opponent and no internet connection needed once the page has loaded.
The computer starts at a friendly strength of about 1320 Elo and can be raised step by step up to about 3190. Besides playing against the computer, you can play a friend on the same device, switch on coach mode to see the engine's best move and evaluation while you play, and review the finished game: every move is graded from best move to blunder, the opening is named and an evaluation graph shows how the game went.
How to play
- You play White; move a piece by dragging it or by clicking it and then its target square.
- The computer answers with Black.
- Open the menu (three lines) to change the computer's strength, play Black, play a friend or reset the game.
- After the game, open the Game Report to see which moves were good and which were mistakes.

- Games are not saved when you leave the page.
