About 2048

Similar to: Threes. If you like Threes, 2048 is a free alternative you can play right here in your browser, with no download.

2048 is the original sliding number puzzle created by Gabriele Cirulli in 2014, released as open source and later copied by countless apps. The rules fit in one sentence: slide the tiles, and when two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one tile with their sum.

Every move slides all tiles on the 4×4 board in the same direction and adds a new 2 or 4. Plan your moves to keep the big numbers together, build up 4, 8, 16, 32 and more, and reach the 2048 tile before the board fills up. After that you can keep going for an even higher score.

How to play

  1. Slide the tiles up, down, left or right.
  2. Equal numbers that touch merge into their sum and add to your score.
  3. A new tile appears after every move.
  4. Reach the 2048 tile; the game ends when no move is possible.
