About A Dark Room
A Dark Room is a minimalist text adventure that starts with a cold room and a dead fire — and slowly turns into something much bigger.
Light the fire, gather wood and build a village, then venture out into the wilderness. The world is larger and stranger than it first seems. A cult classic of browser games that is best played knowing as little as possible.
How to play
- Light the fire and keep it burning.
- Gather wood and build huts and traps.
- Grow your village and its trade.
- Explore the world beyond the village.
Controls

- Arrow keys / WASD: move on the map
Tips
- Keep the fire stoked — the room gets cold quickly.
- Build traps early for a steady supply of resources.
- Take enough food and water before you leave the village.
